The easiest step to overlook that I can think of to fix
this problem is---make sure both computers have unique
computer names and have the same workgroup name. If that
don't work make sure the IP addresses are unique and the
subnet mask is the same(usually 255.255.255.0)

We need more info. For example, tell us what is connected to the Internet
and the configuration of your LAN (Router, ICS, IP Addresses, Gateways,
subnet nasks).

If your hub is connected directly to the Internet and you are getting 2 ip
addresses from your ISP then your 2 computers are probably not in the same
subnet and you do not have a LAN.

On the otherhand, based on your configuration, maybe all you need to do is
disable the XP built-in firewalls on the computers.

Can you ping each other ip address? What OS are you
running? Try to add a user name and password to each of
the machine with full access and see.

Hope that help.

Have you tried searching for the other computer name?
Right click on My Network Places and select search for
computers. Type in the name of the other computer. You
might also try pinging the other PC by the IP address.
