Why am I getting two and three copies of the same emails?

When my email downloads I get two and sometimes three identical emails, and
am looking for an answer as to Why?
 
Check your Rules and Alerts to see if you have set multiple rules for the
sender or subject. Sometimes it's just as simple as that - it isn't actually
3 emails, it's the same email "filed" three different times via three
different alerts.
