When I look down and see the lights flashing on the DSL modem, is there a
way to tell what's going on? Is it my AV program or Windows Update "getting
a fix"? ... or is it a burglar?
(using XP-home, IE-6, OE-6)
thanks, Jim

Look carefully at your desk near your computer. If you don't see a person
wearing black, and a ski mask, and carrying either a knife or a sawed-off
shotgun, and a big sack full of your belongings, it's likely not a burglar.
:)

That said - there are myriad reasons why your DSL modem might be flashing,
or have activity, whatnot.

Do you have your firewall enabled? Do you have good, functioning, updated,
recent-version, antivirus software? Do you do Windows updates regularly? Run
WinXP SP2? Those are all good things.

YUP - I do/have all those things (except the guy with ski mask and dark
clothing). Auto-update is on for Windoze and AVG. Firewall used is the one
that came with XP SP2.
Mostly, it just makes me nervous to have data coming and going without
knowing who's up to what.
I downloaded and have TCPView running. Will play with it for awhile and see
if I sleep easier ;-)
thanks a bunch
