Where is all this coming from?

It's the default return address used for messages posted from the
Microsoft web-based interface to the newsgroups. It's not a
single person, but many different people.

yes - but there is someone using this at the moment to post lots of replies
with no replies in them! And they are all coming from the same IP address.

Can you tell use where that web-based interface can be found?
Are you talking about a webpage? Or webTV?

Thanks Ken. I thought it might be generic. Makes it hard to discern who's
doing all the spamming.

You're welcome.

Yes, it does--it's not only hard to know who's spamming, but also
hard to know who's providing incorrect info. For that reason, I
think it's a mistake for Microsoft to provide an anonymous
default like this. They ought to require people to enter a name.
Even if they didn't enter a real name, if they at least were
consistent in what name they entered, all of these multiple
personalities wouldn't blend together in a single big lump like
this.

if you look at the properties of the messages, all the nonsense posts are
coming from the same IP address.

Greetings --

(e-mail address removed) is the default return address
applied to any message posted via the CDO when the poster declines to
enter identifying information.
