Hi. I have now been working on a database for what feels like a lifetime and
i dont seem to be getting anywhere fast.

I have sought lots of advice and have tried to follow it as best as i could
(technical language been tough to try to decipher as i am very new to all
this)

Anyway i have created all of my tables and forms and tried to enter in data
but it doesnt work. do you know of anybody that will check over my database
and tell me where i am going wrong because i am now in total dispair and it
has to be done

You may want to consider posting to www.rentacoder.com or at least the fact
that you are willing to (or unwilling to) pay...

SQL Server dude

You want fries with that?

I only check the newsgroups during work hours, M-F.
Hit my blog and the contact links if necessary...I may be available.

Hi, yes i would be willing to pay although we are a non profit organisation
so funding is very tight so it would need to be done as cheep as possible

Do you know how to compact the database?
Do you know how to zip the database?

Non-profit organization? What type - charity, educational?

Depending on the answers to your question, I may be willing to take a quick
look at your database. Email me at

S__p en cer at C_H_P D M period UMBC period EDU

REMOVE the underscores and spaces and replace period with .

"it doesnt work" isn't very descriptive. If you can be more specific, you
might get some detailed answers.

What is the non-profit organization you created this for? I don't think I am
the only person here who might take a look at this for no fee. I generally
attempt to work through the news groups and if that doesn't work then I may
accept a file as long as prior arrangements have been made.

It is an educational organisation trying to get kids who left school with no
qualifications and no job prospects into a job and encourage them to get some
kind of education. we get funding from variouse boddies but we would rather
spend the money on the kids than buy fancy software

John is a very capable programmer. If he is short on time, he knows how to
contact me (and others who might take a look).

Ok.

Compact your database (Open it in design view: Select Tools: Utilities:
Compact and Repair from the menu)

ZIP your database and send it to the address I gave in my earlier reply.

We will need to correspond (via email) so I can get details on your
problems. I cannot work on the database while I am at my normal job, but I
will be willing to look at it on my own time.

Unless there is a massive amount of work, I will donate a few hours to the
cause. If there is a lot of work to do, I will discuss your options with
you.

Some possible options ( in rough order of cost)
-- do the work yourself with guidance from the newsgroup
-- do the work yourself with some guidance from me (see the first option)
-- search the web and see if there is already existing software to do what
you want
-- hire a local professional developer to do the work

I too am willing to help a good cause such as this one. Depending on the
availabilities of the other developers, feel free to drop me a line using the
following link.

It also nice to see that talented developers such as John, Duane, .. are
willing to give of their time and talent not only in this forum but even
beyond!

Thanks people. I am sure that Shazza appreciates all the volunteers and so
do I. If I should get overloaded, I will take advantage of those who have
volunteered.

I have received a copy of the database and have begun to analyze it.

I will be communicating offline with Shazza. My prliinary analysis seems to
indicate that some structural changes will be needed. For instance, a many
to many junction table seems to be needed to join Trainees to Courses. And
there is some duplication of data between tables and some fields that seem
to be redundant.

I will do some more analysis this evening and will forward my comments to
Shazza. Once I am satisfied that I understand the data structure
requirements and we get that corrected, I will help her design the forms she
wants for input.
