Whistle on hard drive

I have a high pitched whistle that my hard drive is making. It varies its frequency slightly and goes on and off continuously. It's driving me batty. I asked Dell techs but they had me open the case and unplug the hard drive, which told me is was the hd. They wouldn't send a tech with a new drive, only a refurbished one. Mine is only 8 months old; I don't want a refurbished one. I tried tapping it and unscrewing some screws but it didn't help. Any suggestions to stop the whistle, or do I need to buy a new hard drive?

Hi,

A refurbished drive is better than a dead one. That whistle is a sign of a
hardware problem, and failure is likely imminent. I would suggest that you
recheck your warranty (use the link Will provided). If you are due for new
replacement parts, then put up a stink. If not, then accept what they are
offering. In either case, do not delay as the old drive may last another 6
months, or it may last only another 6 minutes.
