After perusing the recent msgs. at this site I can only conclude that
you get a bunch of whiners re: Windows XP.

If these folks are so unhappy then why don't they install another Op
Sys? Or try writing your own whydon'tya?!

"Trustworthy Computing" is only another example of an Oxymoron!

Well, most of these folks don't realize a computer is *not* like an
appliance. Toasters, you plug in, and they work. You don't need toaster
updates, they're rarely recalled, etc.

I still say a large number of people using computers would have all their
needs perfectly met with something like WebTV and a console for gaming.

these are people who are looking for help. imagine if you
went to your auto mechanic, because your car was not
running properly, and he said 'quit whinning, just get
another' (eventhough it only needed spark plugs). these
people here are normal folks who need help. not everyone
can be an expert on the interworkings of this complex
operating system. yes there are problems (and trust me
i'm not happy with them either), but there are also
problems with some cars (electrical, mechanical). i love
this country, USA, for its freedom of speech, i also love
it because if you dont want to read something or listen
to something you have the right to leave.

I'm contradicting you a little with my opinion. The OS basically works A-OK
out-of-the-box or after the first service pack. The problem is the malicious
intent and malicious code out there. If that could be stopped most of the
patching wouldn't need to be done as the actual functionality of the
computer OS is already there in place and can do its job.

Let's say I build a small power generating windmill for my house. I build it
... maybe have to make adjustments a couple times to get it working better
then that's that. I have to oil it once a month.

But if someone comes along and criminally sledge hammers it to destruction
there's not much I can do and I certainly don't blame the windmill. Sure, I
should have put a brick wall up and ten guard dogs and a machine gun nest
and a patriot missle system and it's my fault I didn't. Or maybe the law
against property wrecking should be better enforced so people are unlikely
to go around wrecking things like my windmill?
