The WHERE first:
Finding my BIOS. I need to set it to boot from the CD first.
My Network Configuration. So I can record them & configure
Windows XP.
Finding my Files and Settings. I need to back them up so I can restore them
after installing Windows XP.
I can't get into my O.S.It locked me out.I have an Unactivated &
Unregistered version of Windows XP Home Edition
(Product Key was "LOST")that a friend installed for me. So needless to say I
bought my own,now I need to uninstall tho useless one & install the good one.
The HOW part:
How do I set my BIOS to boot from the CD?
How do I record my Network Configurations? Write them down,
Print them out,or copy them to a disk?
How do I back up my Files & Settings?
Won't someone PLEASE take pity on me & tell me what need to be done??

When you boot up your system you may see a screen with a small message,
usually in one of the corners of the screen, that says something like "press
delete to enter setup" or something similar. This will get you into your
BIOS. Look for something like BOOT OPTIONS or ADVANCED SETTINGS. Every
BIOS is different, so the wording will vary.
My Network Configuration. So I can record them & configure
Windows XP.

Control Panel. Network and Internet Connections. Right clicking brings up
Properties menu item.
Finding my Files and Settings. I need to back them up so I can restore them
after installing Windows XP.

Your files, or your data, will be on your hard drive where you put them.
Burn all relevant folders to a CD. You have bigger problems right now than
saving your desktop or screensaver settings. Set all that stuff up from
scratch, if and when you get XP installed again.

The HOW part:

See above. When you stick that new XP disk in the drive and boot from it,
you will be given options to delete and create partions and format the
drive. Do a Google search for "clean install of Windows XP". There is a
ton of detailed information on the subject.

Like I said, you've got problems. And never let your "friend" help you
again.

Hello;
Try turning on the computer, when the computer "beeps" or when the
keyboard lights flash, press the delete key several times, then it should go
into the BIOS setup screen. If that don't work, try same thing using F1
then try F2 , or F10. Usually one of those keys will get you to the BIOS
setup. When you get into the setup, change the boot order to CD first, save
the settings and reboot with the XP CD in the cd drive.
What Model is your computer (if you know), that might help get you some
better help.

LOL...No not when someone promises to teach me how to do things or show me
what to do just in case I have to do it myself,if I can't find them or
someone just
as knowledgeable!! Hell all I know about PC's is all self taught anyway so I
might as well keep doing just as always!!!
Thank You Kevin, you have been a tremendous help.

Only you know what motherboard and BIOS you have, so only you know the
answer to your question. ;-}

In the extremely unlikely event that your PC's manual or the
motherboard manufacturer's web site doesn't contain the needed
information, try one or more of the following:

How do I access my computer's setup (BIOS)
http://www.iomega.com/support/documents/2157.html

Wim's BIOS Page
http://www.wimsbios.com/

Accessing Motherboard BIOS
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/bios_manufacturer.htm
My Network Configuration. So I can record them & configure
Windows XP.

Irrelevant until you can boot into the OS.
Finding my Files and Settings. I need to back them up so I can restore them
after installing Windows XP.

Once you can boot into the OS, use the Files and Settings Transfer
Wizard (FAST).

If you've purchased the same license version that was initially
installed by this alleged "friend," you'll need to perform a repair
(a.k.a. in-place upgrade) installation, using the new CD and Product Key.

The HOW part:
How do I set my BIOS to boot from the CD?

Read the instructions provided in the PC's or motherboard's manual;
there are far tto many different brands of copmputers and motherboards
for us to play guessing games.
How do I record my Network Configurations? Write them down,
Print them out,or copy them to a disk?

Start the OS, click Start > My Network Places, right-click on the
network connection in question, and select Properetie. Record what ever
information you wish to preserve.

How do I back up my Files & Settings?

Use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard (FAST).
