I am currently administering a load of XP Pro machines - an OS I am not
highly proficient with! One or two of them are so sick that I cant see any
other fix than to format them and start again.

The machines (Compaq Evo d510s) were shipped with Windows 2000 / XP Pro
install CDs and have product keys for both OSs on stickers on the cases.
All of these CDs have now vanished into whatever black hole claims such
things...

Compaq have informed me that the part number for restore CDs is 341941-001
(XP) and 249519-001 (2000), but none of the dealers listed on their site
have any and I cant find any on the internet at large ;(

So, does anyone know where I can get an XP restore CD from (preferably in
the UK)? Failing that, what are the chances the product code will work on a
standard XP Pro install CD?

Thanks folks ;)

Contact the dealer you purchased the PC's from and explain your situation.
If he good and wants to keep you business he should be able as a dealer
contact Compaq directly have them ship him the correct CD.

No one here knows where or when these machines were purchased, and Compaq
pointed me at their approved dealers as they dont have any of the CDs left
;/

I have also contacted M$ to see if they have any solution, but I am not
holding my breath ;)

If they are truly identical PC's then you might try a ghost backup from a
working system and try a restore to one of your problem PC's.
Can't hurt since the PC is on the blink anyway.

Not sure who you got a hold of at Hewlett Packard, but if they told you that
they don't have any of the needed CD's in stock they're full of it. Contact
HP in the UK and talk to a supervisor. If you have that many of their
machines then I might point out to them that if they are unwilling to assist
you may decide to look elsewhere when spending your next 10,000 or so hard
earned euros to replace outdated systems. They will help. It's merely a
matter of them burning you another copy at the very worst and locating an out
sourced supply at the very best. TTFN.
