I want to upgrade my cpu, but the place where I'm getting
it from want to know what heatsink I've got. My question
is: I use windows xp home edition where would I find what
heatsink I'm using?

Thanks
Steve

Buy the retail box version of the processor. It will come with a
compatible heatsink and fan and full instructions for fitting, which
your question indicates you will need to read very carefully.

Same place you did when you ran DOS, Windows 3.1, Windows 3.11, Windows 95,
Windows 98, Windows 98SE, Windows NT, Windows 2000 or Windows ME...

Open your case, look at the CPU.. The fan/metal device sitting on top of it
is a heat sink. Personally, I think you are better off either buying a
"retail" Intel CP (it comes with a fan/heatsink and a 3 year warranty from
Intel) or purchasing the extra fan/heatsink from the company. Usually they
run less then $40, although you can go crazy with them and get them well
above $400.

Open the PC's case and look.

I suggest buying a new heatsink and fan with your CPU. That's the
easiest way to get the right one, and it never hurts to get a new fan
since the one might be near to failing.

Your OS has nothing to do with your heatsink. The heatsink sits atop
the CPU and usually has a fan attached.
