I want to restore a user's contact list from a backup. Can I get just the
contacts without the mail?

thanks.

thanks.

If you have a backup of the PST file, open the PST file (file | open....)
and then just copy out what you wish, to the user's contacts folder.

All I have is the dir.edb file. Powercontrols 3 claims it's corrupt, but
ESEutil finds it to be consistent. The server is long gone. it was
exchange 5.5.

OK - so this isn't an Outlook issue at all. You're having problems with your
export from an Exchange database. Try Quest's ERM. (www.quest.com) as an
alternative to the PowerControls app - and post in
microsoft.public.exchange.*

Try PowerControls on the Priv.edb, not the Dir.edb. The Dir.edb is the
precursor for active directory, all your exchange data lives in the
priv.edb file.
