Hello,

I upgraded from XP to Vista and due to lack of drivers I need to fall back
to XP.

How do I go about doing that? I expected some kind of uninstall in
add/remove programs but can't seem to find anything...

Thanks!

Backup all your data, then boot off the XP cd and do an install. Wipe the
drive clean and Vista will be history!

I have a mess of stuff already installed which I can't easily reconfigure
and reinstall.

So, can anyone answer my question? How do I uninstall Vista and revert back
to my XP. I did an upgrade from XP so I'm assuming I can do a downgrade
back.

Thanks,

Grant Schenck

Sorry, but you should have made an image copy before you started. The link
is your only way back short of a fresh install.

I'm curious, which drivers specifically are you referring to?
Frank

Did you Upgrade an OEM version of XP or was it a retail version of an XP CD that you purchased at a retailer. Makes a big difference if you can or cannot.

At this point, if losing data and apps aren't an issue then the best coarse
is to boot with the xp cd, format the drive and do a clean install. Quicker
and cleaner.

So what would happen if your hard drive died? You would have to do a clean
install, reinstall your programs again. You should have your programs on
CD/DVD.

care less what the problem is. right? thought so...

So far, the main issue I have is that XP doesn't recognize my video card and
gives me a VGA 640 * 480 only display.

Pretty hard to do much at that resolution.

My PC is for testing software and is a Dell from 5 or 6 years ago. The
video is an Intel 815 Series Integrated Video. Is there a driver out there
that would allow me to run at greater then 640 * 480?

Thanks,

Grant,

With all due respect... did you run the Vista Upgrade Advisor prior to
installing Vista? I'm not surprised that Vista only offers 640x480 support
for an Intel 815 series integrated video card that's five or six years old.

That said, does the PC have any PCI or AGP slots that you could use with
another video card? And... if it does, can you disable the onboard video
card in the BIOS?

And with all due respect from me, I have to ask the OP:
You test software (for a living?) and ask a question like this, " I expected
some kind of uninstall in
add/remove programs but can't seem to find anything..."?
Uninstall and/or add/remove programs are for things that are installed
within the OS. The OS itself does not have an uninstall or remove program
option for itself.

Looks to me like you have a choice between shelling out the bucks for a new
vidcard, or reinstalling XP and all your software.

Yes I did and the only thing it warned me about was my LAN card (which works
fine.)

Just to clarify, my response was written under the understanding that you
had by now reverted back to XP:

The link I gave you will lead you the the download for the XP graphics
driver. There is no Vista graphics driver for the Intel 815 Chipset.

Grant,

Well, I guess I don't know how to reply to that... I've never held the
upgrade advisor in high esteem, I'll admit, but would have thought, at the
very least, that it would've flagged your video subsystem as requiring an
upgrade to run Vista Aero. (Fully realizing that you may not even care
whether you can run Aero or not... just that one would think the UA would
have flagged that.)

So... do you have a PCI or AGP slot that you could use to host a newer video
card?

Grant I bought a new laptopwith vista. I want to get rid of vista and
prchase an XP program. Have you heard of that?
