Can somebody say me where can I see the meaning of common folders in WinXP,
for example,
%systemroot% - ....
Thanks in advance

Hi Lev,

Those are called Environment Variables. Environment variables are strings that contain information such as drive, path, or file name. Type "cmd /k set" in the RUN box, to view the list of Environment variables in the system.

Not sure I understand exactly what you are asking... And
not sure of the information on Environment Variables
that Ramesh pointed you to answers your question.
And not sure if the following is helpful, but...

To quote:

KB310519 - HOW TO: Manage Environment Variables
in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?Product=winxp&scid=kb;en-us;310519

"Environment variables are strings that contain information
about the environment for the system, and the currently
logged on user. Some software programs use the information
to determine where to place files (such as temporary files)."

BTW, of by writing "see the meaning of common folders"
you mean that you want to see what folder that the
environment variable (such as %systemroot%) expands
to, then...

Click Start, click Run, and type in an Environmental Variable
(that is set on your computer). Windows Explorer will open
to the folder in question. And if the Address Bar is enabled,
or the view is set to Explorer Bar | Folders, or your Folder
Options are set to Display the full path in the title bar, you
will be able to see the long path to the Environmental Variable.

Some common Environmental Variables follow:

%APPDATA%

%ALLUSERSPROFILE%

%COMMONPROGRAMFILES%

%HOMEDRIVE%

%HOMEPATH%

%LOGONSERVER%

%PROGRAMFILES%

%TEMP%

%TMP%

%USERPROFILE%

%WINDIR%

just type 'set' at the command line, and it will return all th
environment variables that have been set
