I want to get some old DLLs to try to replace some newer DLLs in
c:\windows\system32 (yep, it's that way round!!!)
My intention is to play around with SFC, and WFP

i'd prefer to download them, but I also have a Win XP sp1 installation
on another partition(so that has DLLs some of which may be old), so
please let me know if anybody here knows of a DLL in win xp sp1 in
\windows\system32 that is older than the corresponding dll (of the same
name) in sp2 in \windows\system32.

thanks

Hi

If you try altering the way SFC works you may corrupt your system making it
unbootable. Also you'll have to think about the legalities regarding
changing the way SFC works.

i'm just learning the use of SFC by setting up situations where it can
be used, i'm not changing it.

Hi

By replacing the installed .DLL files with earlier ones may make your system
unstable. Some you may not be able to replace.

In theory one shouldn't be able to obtain System dll's from download sites as
this would contravene licence agreement terms and conditions.

Microsoft provides a dll database at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=/servicedesks/fileversion/dllinfo.asp

One should find Operating System dlls from installation CDs; so most of us
have one or two prior generations of Windows in filing cabinets or cupboards
somewhere. I for one have a copy of every release of Windows since 3.1.

As for device dlls, many manufacturers still have multiple versions of
Windows driver files [and dlls] available as downloads.

Many applications also use dlls.

At this site you will find the most common files that may be missing or
corrupted on your computer.

Hope this helps.

I have a program that lists the protected files. Email me at (e-mail address removed) if you want it. Then tell me here that you sent me a mail (else it might be months till I look).
