Can't believe not one person in the last month knows any
way to resolve or debug this issue. Please help!
..
1. XP Pro: USB devices not recognized. All Unknown.
2. Restart in Safe Mode. Recognized here.
3. Delete Root Hubs and VIA USB Controllers in Safe Mode.
4. Restart from Safe Mode. All USBs now recognized.
5. Restart again, and they go back to Unknown.
a. Everything indicates all is working with no conflicts.
b. I ran USBREADY.exe and says all is Supported
c. I uninstalled SP1a and testcase remains same
d. Installed and uninstalled Via Filter Patch as well
e. I've even just did a complete fresh install as well.

Is there a way to log, or trace, the Restarts since the
2nd Restart is obviously picking up different parameters
than the Restart from Safe Mode?

Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Thanks,
Chet

Compaq Presario 7000T
USB 1.0 I believe

Have you tried downloading the USB drivers from your motherboard
manufacturing company? What type of m/b do you have?

Bill

Thanks Bill!

I assume I have a Compaq m/b? How do I really check
that? Also, do you really think it could be a m/b driver
problem if Safe Mode and 1st restart are working just
fine? Also, Compaq has no XP drivers for the 7000T
according to them.

Also, how do I know for sure if I have USB 1.0 or 1.1? If
properties just say Standard, then its 1.0, right?

My original m/b was replaced when I first got the
computer by a Compaq technician so who knows what I got
in return.

Thanks!
Chet

I'm having the same problems. It's obviously a USB
problem in SP1 and SP1a. Based on all the USB issues
listed, I'd say that MS needs to address the issue real
soon.

I managed to get a Belkin USB 2.0 driver (unsigned) to
work for me. However, I need to update the driver
everytime I turn the computer on in order for it to
work.
