The first thing you should verify is that there really is no one else using
the database. You can stop that for certain by using the folder permissions.
If people currently have Read, Write, Delete permission to the folder the
database is in then, unless you have also implemented User Level security,
they can open the database without you knowing it.
Second, if you are certain that you are the only one using these databases,
then the next obvious suspect is some kind of corruption. Check the

Try to compact and repair your database. If that fails, download the
Jetcomp.exe utility from Microsoft and try compacting the database with it.
