I was just reading about some of the new features of Whidbey and it sounds
great. Any ideas when this will be shipping?

Except 'next year' is conjecture. What part of next year? All of which
makes projecting and planning an exercise in futility. Its my opinion
Microsoft may very well decide to tie the release of Visual Studio.NET
2005 to Longhorn. If they decide to include the new file system using
Visual Studio.NET 2005 will almost certainly be a requirement for
any file system development objectives. All conjecture of course
as badly as I want it now myself.

It's more than conjecture. I got that straight from the horse's mouth. Of
course they could always slip the schedule. That's why I didn't bother
going into which month or quarter it will be released, because that aspect
of it is somewhat less than reliable.

Horse's mouth? Most schedules from MS come from the other end...

The only answer that has any semblance of validity: You will see it when it is
released.
