When I am prompted for email address or username, a list appears. How do I
get rid of the list i.e. I do not want my computer to remember these things
like my password, usernames etc etc, or to offer these as a suggestion to
unauthorized users.

A secondary annoyance is those pop up "help" windows that appear when you
run the mouse over icons etc. How can all these be disabled?

Best to post your question in the appropriate newsgroup
(Outlook? Outlook Express?). You must also state the exact
version you use.

I use no mail program at all--just internet explorer. I have uninstalled
outlook express and all outlook software.

What would be the appropriate group in which to post?

What does my problem have to do with mail, anyway? The email address
prompting happens while logging into, for example, this site. I type the
first letter of my name and the whole email address pops up beneath where I
am typing.
Thank you for your time anyhow.

Your original post failed to mention Internet Explorer. It only
mentioned addresses and user names. This is why your respondents
were misled into thinking that you were asking about an EMail
program.

I suspect that you are talking about the "auto-complete" function
in Internet Explorer. If unsure how to turn it off, use the standard
approach: Launch Internet Explorer, click Help / Search, type
"autocomplete" (without the double quotes) and check out the
subjects you see.
