First, it's strongly recommended that you *NEVER* open an attachment directly
from an email message; save the attachment and open it from Window Exploder
or by using the File | Open functionality in the program that you want to
open it with. To do otherwise is just asking for trouble - especially when
you start editing the attachment and then close it and can't find it again
and lose all your changes.
Second, is this just Word documents or is it all files that are opening in
Photosmart? In addition, what happens if you try to open a Word document by
double-clicking on it in Exploder? The answers to these questions will help
guide us to the proper response to your question. However...
If double-clicking a Word document in Exploder also causes the document to
open in Photosmart, then you probably need to change the program association
for the file type. To do this, right-click on any Word document file in
Exploder and choose 'Open With>Choose program...' from the context menu.
Select Word (the exact name of the program will vary depending on the version
of Word you're using) from the 'Programs' list, and then select the 'Always
use the selected program to open this kind of file' and click the 'OK'
button. Now go back and test by double-clicking on a Word document file
again, *NOT* from within Outlook 'cause you know better than to do that,
right? <g>
Of course, if the problem is localised to Outlook, then the process for
fixing it will be different. And in that case, I would recommend that you
post your question in an Outlook NG instead of a Word NG.
And if it's all files that are opening in Photosmart, I'd strongly recommend
uninstalling Photosmart because clearly it's trying to take over the world!
