When i read an email in outlook, why will it not show as read?

Depends on how you configured Outlook to mark messages as read in the
preview pane.

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

I don't think Outlok has a "Reading" tab. Outlook Express does have a
"Read" tab, but we've supposed to be discussing Outlook, not Outlook
Express.
