When I put disk in cd-drive and try to open it says "insert disk"

I put a cd in the cd drive, and it didn't load so i double clicked the drive
to open and it says "please insert disk into drive". The managers say the
device is working fine, and just a few hours before the drive would read
cd's. Now it wont read any cd, but I've uninstalled and reinstalled drivers
and it still is broken.

Can you boot from the CD using, say, your XP CD? (even if you don't do
anything after booting)
It may just be dead or dying.
 
I have the same type of problem but only to drive d it reads and write fine
but I get the same message.My drive E works fine,did you ever get a fix Paul

Try a different drive.
