We have a number of clients whose (individual) Outlook
2002 PST files have passed 1.5GB, as a result Outlook gets
much slower when openning as well as closing. Any idea
greatly appreciated. --BOB

2gig max and the pst file itself can accept 16,384 folders
of up to 16,384 items in a folder.

The max is actually 1.87 gigs and you need to start archiving, emptying
deleted items, and compacting. Also, removing attachments and storing them
in the file system helps also.

As for the maximum number of folders and items, with large table support
(optional in 97, 98 and 2000), you can have up to 64,000 folders/items.

Good info - except I went to 1.8 gig and now Outlook won't
open when I have my personal folders (went into setup and
took them out and it works fine). Any ideas on how to
temporarily open pst file and delete some of the content
so it will open again?

Hi,

Have you tried opening Outlook with another default PST and then try to open
the larger PST with the File --> Open Data File ?

This might help you to get access to the old pst.

If not, try running the scanpst.exe on this big PST and then try your luck.

Regards,

You will need to use this tool to chop some data out of the middle of your
..pst file:

Have them split their PSTs in to multiple PSTs (i.e., move some of the
folders to another PST). If they don't they'll regret it when their PST
exceeds 1.83 Gb.
