i currently have xp1800 cpu my rubbish mobo will only go up to xp2400.
i do want to upgrade but not just yet need some ££££££'s!

when looking around websites, i feel as if the xp2400 is somewhat 'hard to find'
does this mean that i should grab one of these while i can because they are not made anymore?

i know that Barton is the next step ahead. i can only seem to find xp2400 there is not many xp1800, xp1900 xp2100 etc left to buy,

just wondering does any1 know anything about this?

ive noticed that alot of websites dont seem to be selling xp's anymore and it is getting harder to find places that sell them

Ebuyer, Overclockers, all the usual suspects have them. Have noticed that the <XP2000+ procs are seldom found tho, I agree with you there.

Well with the increasing FSB on recent processors it seems like shops are cutting the lines of older processors - to be honest, who, nowdays, would want an 1800?

the 2400 is the last chip in the 266fsb series - so you will usually find that companies stock cpu's with an fsb of 333MHz or higher - i.e the 2500 and upwards.

As with the 133fsb processors, you will find that not many motherboards support them any more - most are 266/333/400 so really there is no market for them.

The 2500 is not really expensive anyway and it wouldn't be a wise business choice to continue making the outdated CPU's because they would have to make them in small numbers which would be expensive so they would be of a similar price to the newer ones and the motherboard companies would have to cater for them.

Well, I spose AMD could sell 2500`s as 2400`s with some changes to the FSB and multiplier. I know they did a similar thing with the 3200`s and 2500`s- demand for 2500`s was massive so they churned out 2500`s from the 3200`s wafers, thus making some batches of 2500`s amazing overclockers...

Chris- If a mobo supports 266, thats for a FSB of 133. AMD FSB`s are double pumped- 2 pulses per clock cycle, or something like that. I dont really know the terminology.... :)

Actually, there's still a demand for the XP1700, a fabulous little overclocker, those with the right codes still fetch a fair used price.

What about the mobile range? They are still available in lower speeds, a little more expensive but they run cooler and overclock well.

I'd look them up, but I is getting tired now and just can't be bothered with it :D

how long go u think it will be before this series will be very very rare to find?

what we talking weeks or months?
because it will mean i need to upgrade soon then, whilst i can!

Nope, I wouldn't ... I afraid if you really want/need to upgrade then I would be looking at the 939 socket MBs, it's were AMD are heading. Look at the "new" Sempron CPUs ... its the replacement 'Duron' CPU, value for money 939 CPU ... us AMD 'followers' are a little perplexed, to say the least.

With new models comming out the old soon fade and only the clasics tend to hang on.

:(
