Scince installing XP Service pack 2 on my laptop, My Battery life has gone
down the pan. I am lucky if it lasts 20 Minutes.

Is there anything wrong with the Battery? only the meeter says it is in good
condition or has the service pack got anything to do with it?

Any help would be appreacated...

How old is the battery? It just be coincidense that it's functionality
has become reduced at this time.

In addition to Bruce's advice, go to the laptop mfr.'s website and look
for updated power management software (and other software). Read any
relevant instructions on the website and then download and install the
updates.

The Battery is 12 Months old , Just like the laptop. I read that srvice pack
2 Drivers are killing the life of Batteries in laptops. And that Microsoft
are fully aware of the problem

I doubt very much that an update to an operating system would have any
effect on the battery. But you could roll back the SP2 and see if it makes
any difference. I'd be willing to bet the battery is at the end of it's
useful life, which generally is about 2 years. I know you have only had the
laptop for a year, but how long did the battery sit?

Read it where? Technically, it doesn't even sound feasible, let alone
likely. A service pack doesn't use drivers, by the way.

Well, that's not really the service pack using drivers, but I can see
where the technically-challenged might interpret it that way. What the
article really says is that the USB2.0 drivers supplied with SP2 might
cause a problem on some Intel-based laptops that have USB peripherals
connected whilst operating on battery power. It also says that the
notebook owners should contact their computer's manufacturer for assistance.

"TG Daily and Tom's Hardware Guide have been in communication
with Intel representatives throughout this week about our findings
described in this article. Late Friday, Microsoft acknowledged to
TG Daily - via the hands of Intel - that they believe the problem
our engineers observed to have been caused by a misbehaving
driver included in Windows XP SP2 - specifically, the Advanced
Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) driver, which is part of
the operating system's power management scheme for USB 2.0."

Well I may be One of "the technically-challenged" Mr Chambers, Your words not

He probably won't reply, Shaun.

The M.O. of a lot of supposedly knowledgable posters here
who shoot themselves as Bruce has is to never, ever admit you
may have been wrong and maybe even apologize.

Kinda like our President.

Don't worry about it, if he isen't man enough to admit when he is wrong, then
he isen't much of a man at all is he. Thank you for all your help, V Green,
is that Mr V Green or Mrs V Green? verey formal,

And as for our George, "leave him alone, he's not doing Too bad considering
he hasn't got a clue" A bit like our Mr Chambers you might say. But Joking
apart, thank you very much for all your help....
