what's "DirectDBNotifyWndProc"?

For the past week, each time when I try to shut down my machine, this
message pops up indicating "DirectDBNotifyWndProc" is not responding,
and I was asked if I want to end task or wait. I could not find any
file matching this, so I searched the registry, and found it's
associated to some "Search Assistant" under Microsoft. I honestly
can't remember what program I installed, perhaps for the security
patch and anti-spyware patch. What exactly is this and how do I fix
the problem?
 
It's not spyware nor is it a file. It's a malfunctioning Windows API call,
probably from a poorly programmed app that isn't
terminating it properly.
