I there... I am looking to build a network at home that
has a network printer, cable modem, linksys router, and
two computers running xp.

But the problem I came across is that I hear to have a
safe computer network setup. I need to have only one
computer connected to the internet and the second plugged
into the internet computer with a second eithernet card
on that computer. But I will not be having both
computers on all the time. So if the computer that is
connected to the router is off, the second computer will
not be able to access the internet...

Is there another safe way to hook a network like this up?

Much thanks in Advance!!! =)

Connect the cable modem to the router's WAN (Internet) port, and
connect both computers to the router's LAN ports. The computers will
be able to use the Internet independently of each other. That setup
is safe, because the router acts as a firewall, protecting both
computers from Internet hackers.

The other setup that you heard about is for a network without a
router.
