I need a utilitie that will disable unneccessary services on Windows
XP automatically. I need it to be faster than before. Oh yeah, I
installed the .NET framework and the auto login feature dosen't work.
I have to click on my profile to continue the booting of windows. I
am the only user of my computer.
Okay... Well, shutting off some of the services is not going to help you
that much in the speed category though it will help some. Somebody already
gave you the link to Black Viper's site and, as far as I'm concerned, the
foremost repository of information about the services running on a Windows
based computer. An automated tool, as has already been suggested, is not
something you probably want to be playing with. The services are such that
you're best off to decide what you want and need and then taking these
actions personally. A bit like a hosts file in that regard, as no one person
knows what you need and don't need and what is best for your system.
Education beats an application any day.
Installing the .NET framework eh? I'll assume you had some sort of
application that required it in order to run. Many do these days and I've
never known it to mess up auto-login on my computers but each case is
different I suppose. Here's how you fix that:
Press the Start button > Click on the Run button > type "control
userpasswords2" without the quotes > hit enter or click on OK > On the
User's tab untick the box that says "Users must enter a user name and
password to use this computer." Click Okay and then restart. It should not
ask you for the prompt next time you restart. If it does then you have
altered a setting at a higher level perhaps and that one could be preventing
you from automatically logging in.
