What type of error is this?

I own a 366 mhz pc... I now formatted the hard drive to install Win XP
Professional.

I created a boot disk and then began copying files from the XP cd.
Everything seemed fine and with the exception of 5 files (pjlmon.dll,
wmvdmod.dll, wowfax.dll, pro_seg3.swf, ntldr) the copying process reached
100%.

The system then restarted... I saw the Win XP booting screen for a brief
moment.

At that time, the computer actually discontinued the restarting process and
a black screen with the following message appeared:

"STOP: c0000221 {BAD IMAGE CHECKSUM}. The image URL.DLL is possibly
corrupt. The header checksum does not match the computed checksum."

Any ideas what this means??? Is my cpu (about 5 years old) dead?

Problems copying files or corrupted files during installation
are most often caused by defective or sub-standard hardware; in order
of likelihood, either RAM, the hard drive, or the motherboard. On
much less frequent occasions, a bad CD or defective CD drive can also
cause this.

Have you made sure that your PC's hardware components are capable
of supporting WinXP? This information will be found at the PC's
manufacturer's web site, and on Microsoft's Windows Catalog:
(http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/hcl/default.mspx) Additionally, run
Microsoft WinXP Upgrade Advisor to see if you have any incompatible
hardware components or applications.

You should, before proceeding, take a few minutes to ensure that
there are WinXP device drivers available for all of the machine's
components. There may not be, if the PC was specifically designed for
Win98/Me. Also bear in mind that PCs designed for, sold and run fine
with Win9x/Me very often do not meet WinXP's much more stringent
hardware quality requirements. This is particularly true of many
models in Compaq's consumer-class Presario product line or HP's
consumer-class Pavilion product line. WinXP, like WinNT and Win2K
before it, is quite sensitive to borderline defective or substandard
hardware (particularly motherboards, RAM and hard drives) that will
still support Win9x.

Thanks for the prompt feedback... I'm afraid you're right and cannot load XP
(although I did check the minimum hardware reqs and I think that the PC is
meeting those).

Anyhow, I looked up the websites you suggested... and download the Upgrade
Advisor. This is, however, a very large file and certainly won't fit on a
floppy. How can I run this test at this moment?

Greetings --

As you're having problems installing WinXP, I presume that you
have a WinXP Installation CD available. The Compatibility Advisor is
included on the CD, so there's no need to download it again. Simply
boot from the CD and select the "Check Compatibility" (I forget the
precise wording...) option.
