GluedToTheScreen

Picked up a 1 GB USB flash drive that was on sale with the thought that it
might be handy at times. Now, of course, I've got to decide what to put on
it.

The first thought is passwords - and the program I use:
http://keepass.sourceforge.net/

But what else? I like the idea of having some useful tools that can run
from the drive, like KeePass, without installation. Maybe ftp client...
text editor...

So... what do/would you carry on your flash drive?

I have a bunch of installation programs I put on new installs at work,
latest service packs, Office installation, printer and graphics driver
files, Trend SysClean AV program, and a no-install dual pane file
manager.

Aside from the usual spyware, virus and malware cleaners, I also have this:
http://www.metropipe.net/ProductsPVPM.shtml

It's qemu (a PC emulator) that runs Linux - all from the USB drive. And it
does SSH, mail, web browsing, and all sorts right from the "box". The same
package (albeit with a different launcher) will run on both Windows and Linux
too, with OS X support planned.

FYI - some of the apps you *can* put on your flash drive are noted here:

Column I shows installation and interface information:
n.i. = no install,
n.r. = no registry entries,

Varying a bit, but you never know....

Is there a generic driver for these - I've got a Whizzo, B-i-L has a Beano,
as I often have to do diagnostics on his puter :o( , would be nice if we
had a common driver

$45 (Not Free?) ;-)

This topic was covered a short while back, so rather than revisit the
same topic again maybe you could make good use of google groups and
search ACF for the information you seek.

I don't recall the header title, but maybe someone else does.

In fact, that's where I started.... it's an excellent resource!

Thanks. :) I just wanted to call it to your attention for future reference. Nice to know you were
way ahead of me. . .
Unfortunately, I don't have time to check out all the apps and hope folks
might recommend some of the more useful ones.

I'm glad Mel mentioned an earlier thread. The Subject was "Greeware again" (sic) - John Hood atarted
the thread and he's added some info and recommendations that came from it to the ACF wiki:

BegWare, or Donation Ware.

If you're seeking information here's a brief summary:

ATM about 3700 programs are listed on the PWH site (count does not include Webware apps). The acf
Ware Glossary does not include a definition for BegWare. The head count on apps that are labeled
Nagware and/or Donationware:

Nagware - 8 programs
Donationware - 343 programs

I tried, but....
maybe you could make good use of google groups

You know, I did try there but... to be honest... I still haven't gotten the
hang of their new approach to Groups. It just doesn't think like I do, I
guess. Now, Google Search is my very best friend! I grok it fine.

Oh, thanks to you and Susan for pointing out the thread: Greeware...
(huh?)... anyway, I'll look into it.

This Google URL still seems to work the old (way most of the time) (it's listed in the daily acf
info post):
