I need something to replace the hibernate function on windows vista! Now i
know about sleep however the issue is that it drains the battery!

Hibernate and Sleep aren't the same function, but both are available on
Vista. Hibernate should be in the list of options on the Start Menu (among
Shut Down, Log Off, Restart, etc.). Type "hibernate" in the Search Help box
after opening Help and Support on your Start Menu...

Many of us cannot get a Hibernate to list on the Task Menu - and when used
in the Advanced Options, it requires a set amount of time and even that is
erratic. Hopefully MS will find a Solution for these many Hibernate
problems.

I have had the Hibernate function on my shut down list, but since being on
hols and come back, Vista downloaded some updates, and now it has gone, I
have trid powercfg /hibernate on and powercfg -h on in the command prompt to
no avail

Please help, as I do use it a lot, and don't like the sleep function.

Did you use an "elevated" command prompt?

(right click cmd.exe and select "Run as Administrator".)

I did, I can now set my 'sleep' button to go into hibernate, but it still
don't appear on the the shut down list.
