wHAT METHODS ALLOWS SCANnING WHICH CAN BE MODIFIED LATER

How can one import/scan in a document to Word and then modify it later? I
can scan in but can't figure out how to modify.
 
A scan is a graphic and not editable in Word.

Recent Word versions include Microsoft Document Imaging, though not
installed by default. This is a rudimentary OCR software tool that will do
the job of converting your scan to text..
