What is wrong with my thumbnails

I am designing a website for my company and I am trying to use thumbnails for pictures but can't seem to get them right.

On the design page I paste the pictures from the website, then use the auto thumbnail feature. Everything looks fine the thumbnail is a picture and on the preview page the thumbnail is a picture and when I click on it, it goes to the larger image.

I tried uploading the page to my website and all of the thumbnails are little red x's, but clicking on them still works and they go to a larger photo.

What am I doing wrong? How do I get the smaller thumbnail picture to display on my website.

I am using Frontpage 2003
