Hi,

I found something in Excel that I cannot explain. Maybe someone know
what this is. Here is one way to repeate this phenomen:

1. Open Excel and press new to open second workbook (now you shoul
have two open workbooks)
2. Do something for both workbooks (so that normally if you try t
close it, Excel asks if you'd like to save it)
3. Press Shift+Alt+F4 and press cancel
4. Press Shift+Alt+F4 again.

Now you should see a message box with title "Microsoft Excel" and i
says: "Cannot open Microsoft Office Excel Add-in for editing. Pleas
edit the source document instead."

As I titled: "What is this?"

I don't believe Alt-Shift-F4 is documented to do anything special. It's
probably just doing an Alt-F4. I imagine if you do not use shift the error
will not occur.

Something is going on with one of your add-ins. One of these is running its
auto close code before you get the save changes message. When you cancel it
seems to be reloading but since the shift key is down Excel thinks you're
trying to edit the add-in (this is an old technique for opening an Excel 4
add-in for editing). You can test this by unchecking all your add-ins
(Tools, Add-in) and closing/re-opening Excel before you try your experiment
again.

and thanks for your answer.

I only have Analysis ToolPak installed. After I disabled it, th
"problem" was solved. I use xl2003 but I also tried this in xl2k an
same thing happend in both of them.

Neither do I. Ctrl-Alt-Shift-F4 does the same trick also. I was jus
trying different key combination and accidently found this phenomen
Without shift, nothing special happens.

I started using Excel from xl97, so this is new information for me.
