What is this file in my temp folder for - ~DF5808.tmp?

What is this file in my temp folder for - ~DF5808.tmp?
Something creates these files - with different names - but they can't
be deleted while in use. If I restart the system the old one is
deletable. Can I stop the service that creates it without a problem?

When running Excel(MS Office) I get a whack of DFXXXX.tmp files in my Local
Settings\Temp folder. One for each workbook I open.

Volume in drive E:\ is Local Disk
Directory of E:\Documents and Settings\Gord\Local Settings\Temp\

.. <DIR>
... <DIR>
Adobe <DIR>
Excel8.0 <DIR>
VBE <DIR>
