What is The problem plz help.....

Whenever I try to boot up my cpu this happens
its comes up and sais it cant detect this file
<windows root>system32\hal.dll.
I tried my best to fix this problem so I ended up created a new windows xp
file and it worked correctly
but.......my old file is still there.
So I would either like to know how to fix the old file and/or how can I
delete the old file please help
This is Windows Xp Home Edition btw registered in 2002

You have Boot.INI trouble. Boot from CD, and start the Recovery Console Use
the command 'bootcfg /rebuild', and 'fixboot yoursystemdriveletter'
