What is the maximum number of recipients Outlook 2003 can handle?

I am trying to send to 90+ addresses at once (in the BCC field, if that makes
a difference); made up of four distribution lists. I'm using a trial version
on a Windows XP platform.

I tested this a few days ago and it worked. Today I changed an e-mail
address (updated the list) and am getting '452 Error: too many recipients'.

Thx

That rejection is made by your Email Provider and not Outlook. You will
need to check with them as to what limit they enforce.

You need to ask your ISP or system administrator, whichever applies.

Hi. Am facing the same problem. But I am able to send the message to the
distribution list from my isp's webmail service and also the ISP states that
it is the problem of the product.

Thanks and regards,

This could means that the DL in the ISP's webmail is different from the one
in Outlook. You have an error in the Outlook one somewhere. It could also
mean your ISP is lying to you. Just because you can send something from the
web interface, which probably does NOT use the ISP's SMTP server, and not
from Outlook does not mean that the ISP's SMTP server isn't rejecting the
message.

Hi Natasha, I'm with you. I have been trying to get this 452 too many
recients error resolved on my laptop for two or three months. I have done
loads of tests and even tested fom other machines like you using the ame ISP
with no problem. Solutions proposed include lots of prtoblem avaoidance
stratedgies, and yet I cant get away from the fact that all the responses
seem to fall into two camps. 1. Its the ISP and a limit they have applied, 2.
try a work round.

PLease please can someone look into this deeply and establich the real cause
and then a solution. My posting "Microsoft Office Outlook error 452 4.5.3
Error: too many recipient" remains open as I dont feel we have to the root of
the problem yet.

The error you describe is beyond a doubt a server-side error, sent from your
ISP's server in response to the message Outlook is attempting to send. Just
because your other workplace uses Telkom South Africa as your does doesn't
imply they use the same SMTP server or that the people in the TSA side who
take care of that server don't manage it differently than the people who
take care of your server. Moreover, there's no indication that the people
at your other workplace use the same sender domain as you do. (For example,
I work for a company with multiple sender domains; each subbusiness on the
company has its own domain. Moreover, some portions of the business use one
provider for network services, another portion might use a different
provider, based on geography and service offerings for the area where the
business is located.)
