Does anyone know what the incoming (pop3) mail name and Outgoing
(smtp) name
is so that i can use my hotmail account in outlook 2000
Sure. It's NOTHING! There is no POP3 server for Hotmail. They
discontinued POP3 access a long time ago. You need to use an e-mail
client that uses WebDAV to connect to Hotmail, like Outlook, Outlook
Express, or some online services that give you POP3 access to their
servers that use WebDAV to yank it from your Hotmail account.
Same for SMTP. Define an HTTPmail account in Outlook or Outlook Express
to access Hotmail.
If you have an old freebie Hotmail account that existed before the Sept
27, 2004, policy change by Microsoft
(
http://www.infoworld.com/article/04/09/27/HNhotmailoutlook_1.html) then
you should be able to continue to use a WebDAV-enabled e-mail client
until around March 2005 and then you lose WebDAV access to that freebie
account. If your freebie Hotmail account was created after that, you
don't get any WebDAV access. If you can't get WebDAV access to Hotmail,
and if you still want to use Hotmail, then your choices are:
- Pay Microsoft for a premium Hotmail account to permit WebDAV access by
your e-mail client.
- Use their webmail pages to access your freebie Hotmail account.
If you want local management of e-mails in your Hotmail account, you'll
have to pay for it.
By the way, Outlook 2000 does not have support for HTTPmail accounts.
That was added in Outlook 2002. I believe there is a workaround for
Outlook 2000 mentioned at
http://www.slipstick.com/ but it isn't
guaranteed to work or guaranteed to continue working. It is a kludge
that sometimes works. Back when Outlook 2000 was released, Hotmail
still offered POP3 and SMTP server access (if you paid for it). Later
Microsoft dropped POP3 and SMTP and went with their WebDAV
(
