Hello,

I just got a new computer with XP Pro installed. On my C:
drive there is a folder named I386. What is this folder
for? Can it be deleted? It's 855 MB in size. Although I
don't need the space at this time, I do like to get rid
of useless junk.

Does windows XP need this folder? If so why wouldn't it
be in the WINDOWS folder?

Thanks for any help,

Peter

You could contact the system manufacturer and ask them about it. \i386
contains Windows XP installation files. Likely whoever installed XP onto
your system copied this directory off the XP CD and installed from the hard
drive. Unless you have a Windows XP CD you likely need it to reinstall XP or
to run System File Checker. You should keep the directory unless you have a
Windows XP CD.

I will back this up and also say it's used to install from. windows cd has
the same directory and the install files are in it. keep it on the hard
drive is good if when you install new hardware or anything it might ask for
the cd or install directory. you can install from that folder and it will be
way faster then installing from cd.
