If you don't know, I wouldn't mess around with that
folder. Along with your Registry and System folders its
one of the most important components of XP. You can
easily ruin your install of XP within SECONDS if you do
something wrong in i386. Basically that folder is where
XP installs all of your optional components and services
that you may not have turned on, or already have
installed.
It is the folder that contains all the system components needed to
install or repair the system. If you have a *proper* XP CD, containing
an i386 folder of files, you do not need it on hard disk as well. BUt
if all you have is some method provided by the machines maker for
'restoring' the system then you certainly do
