'b' and 'g' are wifi (wireless) speeds, there was an 'a', and now an 'n'
Later numbers are faster, and reputed to be more powerful (more distance)

Hi,
WiFi is just short for any wireless connection. Wireless b/g are standards
for differing types of wireless connections.

"b/g" refer to standard 802.11b and 802.11g - IEEE standards for wireless
communication. WiFi refers generically to wireless connections.

802.11b is considerably faster than 802.11b (54mb/s to 11mb/s, IIRC),
and are otherwise compatible (any 802.11g implementation will also
handle the slower 802.11b). Anyplace that advertises "Wi-Fi" is pretty
surely offering 802.11b and/or g. The other variants are rarely seen.
