Hi,

I want to buy a book that covers everything for ACCESS 2002
and/or 2003 in my XP Pro environment.

The book should also have VBA stuff and be detailed enough
that I don't need to keep referring to the newsgroups for help.

Anyway have a couple of suggestions ?

To supplement Van's excellent suggestions, here are some personal
recommendations of my own.

For the raw novice, _Microsoft Access <versionnumber> Step by Step_
published by Microsoft Press. Some other books that begin at the beginning
and go deeper are _Special Edition - Using Microsoft Access_ by Roger
Jennings, published by Que and _Microsoft Access Inside Out_ by John L.
Viescas, published by Microsoft Press.

For the power user moving to developer level, _Programming Microsoft Access
2000_ or _Programming Microsoft Access 2002_, by Rick Dobson, published by
Microsoft Press. There is a 2003 edition that I haven't seen, but I would
guess that it would be good, too.

The consensus choice for a detailed, in-depth reference for developers is
_Access <versionnumber> Developer's Handbook_ by Litwin, Getz, et al,
published by Sybex.

In addition to the list posted elsewhere in this thread by Larry Linson, I'd
add Beginning Access 2002 VBA Programming, from Wrox Press, Access Database
Design and Programming, from O'Reilly, and Designing Relational Database
Systems, from Microsoft Press. The latter is currently out of print, if you
see a used copy for sale anywhere, my advise is to grab it, quick.

As you've probably gathered by now, there really isn't any one book that
covers all aspects of Access development in depth - such a book, if written,
would probably run to at least three volumes, and by the time it was printed
the next version of Access would be in Beta. I have a whole shelf of books
on Access (it recently collapsed under the weight! :-) and I still need to
turn to the newsgroups for help on occasion.

Does anyone know if there is an updated version of Stan Leszynski's Access
97 Expert Solutions out there anywhere?

No, I do not know.

I hear that there is not to be an Access 2003 edition of _Access
<versionnumber> Developer's Handbook_, by Litwin, Getz, et al, published by
Sybex, but the 2002 edition will cover just about everything in 2003 (there
were not many changes of any consequence). That is the consensus choice of
the Access developer community.

I also like Rick Dobson's "Programming Microsoft Access <version>" from
Microsoft Press. It is especially strong for learning ActiveX Data Objects
I/O, and the Access Project, if you need to do those things. It has strong
emphasis on client-server with Access and SQL Server.

"Covers everything" is a pretty stringent requirement. The two books I quote
above are for Intermediate to Advanced users, and don't dwell on "the
basics".

A book with much coverage for different levels of user, and different depths
of use, is "Microsoft Access 2003 Inside Out" by John Viescas, published by
Microsoft Press.
