What is svchost.exe?

The Old Timer

Just what is the file found under processes called svchost.exe? I have
heard it variously called a worm, a virus,spyware & an essential part of
windows.
 
Hi,

It is a normal part of Windows, and multiple instances of it running in task
manager is normal. *If* you find a copy of it under
C:\Windows\system32\wins, then that is likely a virus (this is not where the
file should be residing, and if you check properties against one in the
C:\Windows\system32 folder, you will find they are significantly different).
