I was advised to do this, after I asked how to get rid of the red x on some
sites I go to. (Actually EBay) All the red x's have that extension .CGI. I
was told that this is what I have to do. I have no idea what they are
talking about. Can I get help from one of you wonderful people here how to
do this in Win xp home...............Peter

You need to set IIS to recognize .CGI files.

Go into your IIS admin, and bring up the properties for you cgi folder.
On the 1st page, click the "Configuration"
In the list, you should see an entry for .pl
Note down the properties of it, and make a new entry for .cgi and it should
work.

I'm at a loss with this new format for asking/responding to questions?
Microsoft - what have you done to us? I can't figure out how to submit a
question. Help!

The reason you're having such problems is that you are using the
web interface to read this newsgroup--it's the slowest,
clunkiest, most error-prone method there is. Do yourself a favor
and switch to a newsreader, such as Outlook Express, which comes
with Windows.

Thanks Ken, but what do all those numbers represent? I see 'In news' in
other messages but it doesn't mean anything to me. Thanks for your help and
patience.
