what is protocol error

Hi! i have been using outlook for a while but nevr witnessed this problem , I
can recieve emails but cannot send out email. while the outgoing message is
being scanned by McAfee , i keep getting informed of protocol error, would
like to know what can i do about it.

If you disable McAfee does the message send successfully?
