What is Populate the Volume?

Thanks for the info, but there's something else going on.

I've played around with things, and the USB drive behaves normally IF I go
into the Properties and populate the volume. But, I have to do this each
time I unplug and then plug it back in, a minor but repeated pain.

I can't find any information about exactly what Populate the Volume does,
and how to make it permanent. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks,

Phideaux

This is just for to gain the information that is displayed in the
Properties of the device. This information is not shown automatically
even if the device works well, so this should not have anything to do
with the original problem.

I looked at Google before posting this message. There is no relevant info
there, or on the MS website for that matter.

Thanks. It must be magic, because the device works properly after I populate
the volume, and it doesn't work when I don't do populate it.

I would check if the device works on another machine. Also I would try
another USB device on the same computer and USB port.

Yeah, I've exhausted all the usual troubleshooting procedures.

This device exhibits the same problems on all the USB ports on my PC,
This device works perfectly on other PCs.
Other devices work perfectly on my PC, on all the USB ports

This device will only work on my PC (any USB port) if I go in to the
Properties and Populate the Volume.

It's a mystery.

Obviously the device is not fully compatible with the USB hardware in
your computer.
