What is extra bar along top in FF v1.5 w/puzzle piece graphic? Can we get rid of?

Does everyone else have this? It's occurred with each theme and
before I put in extensions so it seems to be part of the default FF
v1.5 installation.

What does it do and is it necessary, anyone know? Seems a waste of
browser screen real estate and I'd get rid of it if I could because it
doesn't seem to do anything that I can see.

Thanks.

A green puzzle piece normally means that one needs a plugin to properly
display something on the webpage you're visiting.
Does it dissapear when you click the red x at the end of the bar ?

This is what is very odd. It was there the instant I installed the
new version before I'd even gone anywhere. It's a fresh install, but
I did not remove my chrome folder with everything inside. I
uninstalled v1.0.6 and chrome fldr was what was left. I moved that
out and deleted all the other folders. I created a new folder and
installed v1.5 in that.

Perhaps there was something in that chrome folder?

As I mentioned, this puzzle piece appeared right from the beginning.
There is no button or anything, just a 1/4" bar along the top with a
partial green puzzle piece (it's not even showing up completely).

Any ideas?

Thanks. :oD

No idea what's going on.
I installed FF 1.5 over my old FF install without any problems, all
settings were still there, and everything worked fine. Moving around
chrome folders is far beyond anything my tiny brain can understand.

Actually, I've had time to think about it. I'm guessing that it's
actually, perhaps one of the forced extensions. This seems a good
bet. Whenever I get a chance, I'll uninstall everything and re-load
one by one. The first extension I put in was that one that forces
everything to works and FF at nearly the same time, asked about
updating them automatically. But after that I thought it wasn't a
good idea to rely on this process in future so I went and looked for
the updates one by one. I'll get rid of everything and install those
instead.

Perhaps that will do the trick.

It's probably sort of the same thing as if I'd installed over the old
FF. But I got advice to do a fresh install, so I did. I just started
FF in safe mode and that bar is there so something other than the
extensions is going on. I never had much luck with the flash plugin.
I got very unreliable behaviour. I never uninstalled that and
wondering if it still remained even FF v1.0.6 uninstalled. That was
the only thing that ever appeared across the top sort of in this
fashion.

There is no X or anything. When I click on the puzzle piece, all I
get is a scroll bar along the "bottom" line of the area, which is more
like one long rectangle than a bar anyway.

I'm giving up for now. It doesn't seem to be doing anything at all,
so will live with it. When I wipe my OS and re-install everything, it
probably will be gone.

All in all, that's the only thing I've run into that's a problem, and
even as such, it's not really much of one that I can see. So I'm
pleased with FF.

Thanks. :oD
