what is db?

I have many files on my pc that are prefixed by the letters db, for example
db_holiday.jpg etc etc, what does db mean? is it a duplicate file or
database file? I have not created a database so how would it be a database
file? Can I delete these files?
 
It could mean almost anything. It is merely part of the file name. It is NOT a
file type since it doesn't follow the . (dot) such as .com. You can rename
any one of them.

I get a little confused, when I run search on image files I get duplicate
images then when I open one from within search another file of the one that
I have just opened appears
 
Are you using some sort of image catalog program? This might be responsible
for generating those files.
