What is an XML Document?

I have downloaded some files that say that they are XML Documents, Is there any way that I can convert these files to WMA or something that my computer understands?

XML, like HTML, files are text files. They use tags to identify the
hierarchy of the contained data, something like records. You could look at
the .xml file with Notepad. It would look prettier if opened using a web
browser since many will apply automatic formatting. I'm not an expert in
XML but that's pretty much what I've seen of those filetypes.
