Sorry if this is OT.

Someone gave me a large file named 'test.vcd'.
I don't know what to do with it. What kind of a file could it be and
what application can handle it?

Thanks

If someone gave you some strange and suspicious looking food
without eating it himself, would you eat it? Treat this file in the
same way until this person tells you what it is and what to do with it.

I believe .vcd stands for Virtual CD, and I think you need virtual CD
software to play it. It's large because it's the contents of an entire
CD. I'd certainly question why he'd name it test and why he didn't label it
with the contents before I opened it.

WMP should play it. From what I just read, the files don't normally
have the extension, the file is saved to a CD and plays when inserted.

Ah, the joys of tla's (three letter acronyms). If someone gave me a
..vcd file, it would be a "value change dump" file from a Verilog
simulator and I would use a wave viewer to debug their circuit
problem. However, I doubt that would be relevant to your .vcd file,
unless you happen to have a friend that is an EE.

VCD is a video CD. Put it in your household CD/DVD player and see what it
is. It should look very nuch like a DVD you get at the movie store.

It's worth noting, however, that although most DVD players will play VCDs,
not all of them do.
