What is a Directory Text String?

I need a definition of it and where/how to use it or what it does for school
using windows xp
 
I guess you could start by using www.Google.com.

(Although I wonder if what you are looking for is actually "directory
path" rather than a "directory text string". If that's the case then
your teacher needs to do a little more homework as well!)
